1935 - founding and early years of our company

In 1935, Andries Nijdam Sr. began his city delivery service at Schuitendiep in Groningen. Customer demand soon grew to include the transport of goods outside of the city. Our founder reacted to the requests by expanding his activities to cover all of the Netherlands. Although life was not easy, the company survived the tough years of the Second World War.

1953 - takeover of the company

In 1953, Andries Nijdam Sr. stepped down from active service. His son Hendrik took over the company and continued to develop the working field. During the post-war redevelopment years, there was demand for international transport and forwarding. Hendrik Nijdam anticipated this demand, thus enabling strong growth of our company. The company outgrew the premises at Schuitendiep and therefore moved first to a larger location at the Voormalig Klein Poortje and subsequently to Peizerweg 144 in Groningen in 1959.

1964 - Establishment of our hoisting company

Our hoisting company was founded in 1964, as a response to requests from our regular customers for the transport of gas pipelines. It proved to be an important next step in the growth of our company. By 1970, we had outgrown our premises, and therefore bought a neighbouring plot along with the buildings on it. Seven years later, we extended our services to include construction crane activities and opened a new operating company in Belgium.

1959 - één van de eerste kranen

Een vaste klant deed een beroep op ons bedrijf in voor het transport van heipalen. Om klanten van dienst te zijn met het lossen van dit zware stukgoed op locatie, kocht Hendrik Nijdam een eigen autokraan. Hiermee beschikten wij over een van de weinige hijskranen van een grote regio.

1960 - Verhuizing naar de Peizerweg

Het bedrijfspand aan het Voormalig Klein Poortje in Groningen was door uitbreiding van de werkzaamheden en diensten te klein geworden. Er was behoefte aan meer ruimte voor opslag van goederen en stalling en onderhoud van het rijdend en rollend materieel. Deze ruimte vonden wij aan de zuidzijde van de Peizerweg waar een moderne opslagloods plus stallings- en onderhoudsruimte voor ons machine- en wagenpark werd gebouwd.

1964 - oprichting van ons kraanbedrijf

Voor de aanleg van een gasleiding Zutphen-Hilvarenbeek kregen wij de opdracht voor transport van zware gaspijpen die onder rivieren door aangelegd werden. Voor het lossen van deze pijpen van 17 ton per stuk kochten wij een 25-tons Amerikaanse Lorain kraan. Aangezien deze dienst mooi aansloot op het werk van ons expeditiebedrijf, brachten we deze tak onder in een afzonderlijke onderneming: Kraanbedrijf Nijdam.

1980 - new location and expansion of production and workshop

In 1980, we moved to our current transport terminal at Peizerweg 99. This location offered us the space we required to design and build our modern truck workshop. We were soon to take over the well-known trailer producer, Zwalve from Oude Pekela.

1987 - the third generation at the helm

In 1987, the third generation of the Nijdam family took control of the company. The Nijdam family still captains our fantastic family firm with the same degree of dedication. Our company has proven that it can withstand economic storms. We look forward to serving you for many more years.
